World No. 1, Simona Halep and her American opponent, Alison Riske, eventually got their delayed first round match underway on Court Philippe Chatrier today.
Riske got off to a good start, and aided by Halep’s string of unforced errors and inability to convert her service points, Riske took the first set.
Halep managed to settle her nerves in the second set and and third sets to cruise past the American with a 2-6 6-1 6-1 win.
Next up for Halep will be another American player, Taylor Townsend, who swept aside Myrtille Georges of France, 6-4 6-2 yesterday.
