There was plenty of action on Day 3 at the French Open in Paris today as more first round matches were being played.
The top seed, Rafael Nadal completed his match against Simone Bolelli, with a 6-4 6-3 7-6(9) victory, after rain halted their match last night.
Marin Cilic, the third seed from Croatia defeated the Australian, James Duckworth 6-3 7-5 6-4(4), in a battle of the big servers, which saw 15 aces being served during their 2h13 match.
Cilic’s second round opponent will be Hubert Hurkacz of Poland, who defeated Tennys Sandgren of the USA 6-2 6-2 3-6 6-3.
South Africa’s Kevin Anderson, who is seeded sixth at this year’s tournament, wasted no time in sending Paolo Lorenzi from Italy packing, with a 6-1 6-2 6-4 victory in 1h42.
The big serving South African blasted 18 aces past his opponent, who failed to serve even one.
Next up for Anderson will be Pable Cuevas of Argentina, who defeated Aljaz Bedene from Slovenia, 6-4 6-3 6-2.
Another big hitter, Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina, who is seeded fifth, managed to defeat Nicolas Mahut of France, 1-6 6-1 6-2 6-4. Del Potro’s next opponent is still to be decided.
