In French Open Day 1 action, the second seed, Alexander “Sascha” Zverev of Germany will open his campaign against Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania.
Zverev, who has already played in four finals this year, winning two of them, must be considered the biggest threat to Rafael Nadal’s title hopes.
The fourth seed, Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria will battle it out against Viktor Troicki of Serbia. Roland Garros has not been kind to Dimitrov, who is yet to advance past the third round in Paris.
The Belgium player, David Goffin who is seeded eighth, will take on Robin Haase of the Netherlands. Neither player has managed to reach a final this year, with Goffin hoping to improve on his 2016 quarter final appearance in Paris.
Despite being sidelined with injury which saw him miss both the US and Australian Opens, Kei Nishikori (19) from Japan will be in action against Maxime Janvier of France. Nishikori has managed two final appearances this year, winning one and reached the quarter finals in Paris last year.
