Things are looking good for last year’s runner-up and the Top seed, Rafael Nadal of Spain.
Nadal, who last competed at the ATP World Tour Finals in November last year, has been in fine form so far at this year’s Australian Open Tennis tournament, being played in Melbourne.
Sporting his trademark sleeveless tops again, the Spaniard sailed past Estrella Burgos, Mayer and Dzumhur in the first three rounds. His fourth round opponent will be Diego Schwartzman of Argentina.
His fiercest rival, good friend, last year’s winner and the second seed, Roger Federer of Switzerland, is looking equally in good form having sailed past Bedene, Gasquet and Struff in the first three rounds. His next opponent will be Marton Fucsovics of Hungary.
Although there are a string of title hopefuls still in the running (including the 6-time Australian Open champion, Novak Djokovic), we could well be heading for a re-match of last year’s final between these two tennis legends.
Federer and Nadal are the toast of the Australian Open, with a massive following on and off the court, including some Hollywood treatment with actor Will Ferrell joining Jim Courier on court to interview Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, visiting with his driver’s family.
