At the age of 37, Venus Williams of America reached her 12th US Open quarter-final, after defeating Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain, 6-3 3-6 6-1 on the Arthur Ashe Stadium yesterday.
Williams, who was a finalist at this year’s Australian Open and Wimbledon tournaments, needed 1 hour 50 minutes to battle past her opponent.
As with so many of her other matches, Williams served up a mixed performance, ranging from 4 aces, 7 double faults, 31 winners and 32 unforced errors. Her first service was below par, although she still dominated at the net.
One good thing was no repetition of the ball boy incident that happened during her third round match against Maria Sakkari.
