Whilst some of the tennis players were labouring through the first week of the US Open, former World No. 1 and 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, gave birth to her and fiancé Alexis Ohanian’s first child, a baby girl at the St Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida on Friday.
The bundle of joy arrived shortly before older sister, Venus was due to the take the court against Maria Sakkari, who she defeated in two sets.
Before Venus walked out on court, Pam Shriver asked how she felt about the birth and the all-business Venus said she was super excited, adding that words cannot describe it.
Serena has already hinted that she will be taking part in next year’s Australian Open Tennis tournament.
Meanwhile, 24 hours later, another former World No. 1 and 12-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic and his wife, Jelena, gave birth to their second child, a baby girl named Tara.
The couple’s son, Stefan, is already three years old.
Djokovic, who missed the US Open due to an elbow injury, will now be able to enjoy the midnight pyjama drill at home.
