Karolina Pliskova through as rain halts play at the US Open

Top seed, Karolina Pliskova raced past Magda Linette of Poland with a 6-2 6-1 win to advance to the second round of the US Open today.

The match, which lasted just 78 minutes, saw the top seed blast 8 aces and 28 winners past her Polish opponent.

Other players to advance before the rain set in were the 23rd seed, Barbora Strycova, Yanina Wickmayer and Sorana Cirstea.

Dominic Thiem, Ivo Karlovic, Elina Svitolina, Kiki Mladenovic and Jelena Ostapenko were amongst the players whose matches were temporarily suspended.

Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios are all due on court today.
