The 34 year old and 16th seed, Gilles Muller of Luxembourg, has just caused the biggest upset at this year’s Wimbledon Championship, when he defeated the 4th seed, Rafael Nadal of Spain in an epic five-set match on Court 1.
The match, which lasted 4 hours and 47 minutes, went down to the wire in the fifth set. Muller won the first two sets, but in true Nadal style, he fought back to win the next two and force the decider. However, in the end, it was Muller who came up trumps with the score on 6-3 6-4 3-6 4-6 15-13.
This is the second time that Muller has defeated Nadal at Wimbledon. The first time was in the third round of the 2005 championships.
Next up for Muller will be Marin Cilic. The two have played twice before, most notably on grass at the recent Queen’s tournament, which Cilic won.
Cilic managed to win his match in three sets today, so the big question will be how much Muller still has left in his tank on Wednesday.
