Venus Williams, the 37 year old American player, continued her surge towards a sixth Wimbledon title, when she defeated the 19 year old, Ana Konjuh of Croatia, 6-3 6-2 on Centre Court today.
Williams is the oldest player since, Martina Navratilova in 1997, to play in the Wimbledon quarter-finals, in what will be her 13th quarter-final appearance.
Her opponent will be none other than the 2017 French Open champion, and thirteenth seed, Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia. Ostapenko, who is seventeen years younger than Williams, is the in form player and sure to be the biggest threat to Williams title quest at Wimbledon so far.
Ostapenko defeated the 4th seed, Elina Svitolina 6-3 7-6(6).
