Venus Williams and Jelena Ostapenko victorious on Day 5

Venus Williams powered her way past Japan’s Naomi Osaka with a 7-6(3) 6-4 victory on Court 1 today, to advance to this year’s fourth round at the Wimbledon Championships.

Playing in her 98th match at Wimbledon, the 37 year old, tenth seed American, was sublime at the net during their 1 hour and 25 minute match.

Williams will now play against Ana Konjuh of Croatia, who shocked the eighth seed, Dominika Cibulkova in three tough sets, 7-6(3) 3-6 6-4.

The 2017 French Open champion, Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia continued her good form when she defeated Camila Giorgi of Italy, 7-5 7-5 to set up a fourth round clash against Elina Svitolina of the Ukraine, who defeated Carina Witthöft of Germany, 6-1 7-5.
