Nadal and Cilic advance on Day 5 as Nishikori is sent packing

The fourth seed, Rafael Nadal of Spain surged into the fourth round of this year’s Wimbledon Championships when he defeated Karen Khachanov of Russia, 6-1 6-4 7-6(3) on Centre Court today.

Nadal’s next opponent is Giles Muller of Luxembourg, who defeated the British hopeful, Aljaz Bedene 7-6(4) 7-5 6-4.

The seventh seed, Marin Cilic of Croatia, swept aside Steve Johnson of the USA, 6-4 7-6(3) 6-4 to set up a fourth round clash against Roberto Bautista Agut, who got the better of the ninth seed, Kei Nishikori in four sets, 6-4 7-6(3) 3-6 6-3.

The French player, Benoite Paire also advanced to the fourth round after defeating Jerzy Janowicz of Poland, 6-2 7-6(3) 6-3.
