The third seed, Simona Halep was made to dig very deep during her 6-4 3-6 6-3 victory over the second seed, Karolina Pliskova on Court Philippe Chatrier today, to advance to her second French Open final.
The two hour match produced a mixture of brilliant tennis and frustration as the two players, with completely different playing styles, tried every trick in the book to outsmart each other.
Pliskova, who is not a clay court specialist, battled with her first serve and had to rely on her second serve to build her confidence during the match. Despite serving seven aces, the fifty-five unforced errors hampered her chances of reaching the final.
Halep, who enjoys more success on clay courts, excelled with her first serve and despite looking tired in and losing the second set, managed to fight back to take the third set and the match.
