Grigor Dimitrov is on the rise again

The 25 year old Bulgarian tennis player, Grigor Dimitrov, was certainly destined to be in the spotlight – on and off the court.

It all started at the tender age of 14, when he won his first major junior tennis title and followed that up in 2008, by becoming the No. 1 ranked junior player, after winning both the Wimbledon and US Open titles that year.

He turned pro in 2008 but had to wait until 2013 before clinching his first ATP title, the Stockholm Open in Sweden. His good form continued in 2014, when he bagged another three titles – Aegon Championships (London), Bucharest and Acapulco.

Dimitrov then experienced a rather dry spell, but has certainly bounced back well in 2017, with two titles so far – the Brisbane Open and his first home title, the Sofia Open in Bulgaria. He narrowly missed spoiling the “Over 30s Finals” party at the Australian Open, when he lost to Rafael Nadal in their thrilling five-set semi-final match.

Dimitrov’s playing style has been compared to that of Roger Federer, earning him the nickname, “Baby Fed”.

But it’s not just on the court that Dimitrov manages to turn heads.

With his boyish good looks, he was rumoured to be dating Serena Williams and then her fiercest rival, Maria Sharapova, both in 2012. His relationship with Sharapova went public in 2013, which led to some indirect subtle and not so subtle words being exchanged between the “Supreme Queen” (Williams) and the “Ice Queen” (Sharapova).

Dimitrov and Sharapova ended their relationship in 2015 and for the past few months, he has been dating another superstar, former The Pussycat Dolls singer and X-Factor judge, Nicole Scherzinger.

It appears that Dimitrov has now learnt how to balance work and play, so a Grand Slam title or two, may just be on the cards in the near future.
