It’s the perfect start to the 2017 season for the Williams household with both Venus and Serena through to tomorrow’s Australian Open Ladies Singles Final.
In what can only be described as the most mixed bundle of Ladies Grand Slam results in quite some time, Venus would probably be considered as the surprise qualifier, seeing that her semi-final opponent yesterday was Coco “the seed slayer” Vandeweghe. Vandeweghe has ripped through the ladies top order and was tipped to make her first Grand Slam final, but Lady Luck failed her as she succumbed to the seven-time Grand Slam champion, 7-6(3) 2-6 3-6.
Serena was in another rampant mood yesterday and gave Mirjana Lucic-Baroni no chances during her 6-2 6-1 win in their semi-final clash.
Tomorrow marks the 28th time that the sisters will battle it out, with Serena leading the Head2Head 16-11.
Whether 36 year old Venus captures her 8th title or whether 35 year old Serena makes history with her 23rd title and a return to World No. 1, you can be sure that the red carpet is going to be rolled out for an all Williams party Down Under.
