The very popular, former World No. 1 Ladies player, unseeded Caroline Wozniacki, kept her 2016 US Open dream alive when she defeated the American hopeful and eighth seed, Madison Keys 6-3 6-4 today, to set up a quarter-final clash against Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia.
There was a lot of pressure on the American’s shoulders and despite hitting more winners than Wozniacki, 30-12, it was her 33 unforced errors combined with Wozniacki winning 80% of her own first serve points and continuing her blistering forehand down the line shot, that unravelled Keys.
Wozniacki, who was a finalist here in 2009 and 2014, has seen her ranking slip to No. 51 due to loss of form and an ankle injury, which kept her out of most of the clay court season this year.
